Cooler and Drinkware Decals: Materials and Care

A still life scene of various hiking and outdoor gear prominently featuring high-quality water bottles and coolers. The items have artistic decals, showcasing interesting patterns, and designs on them

Cooler and drinkware decals add names, symbols or original artwork to personal gear. Curved surfaces, frequent handling, condensation and cleaning make product selection especially important.

Identify the surface

Record whether the item is painted metal, bare metal, plastic, powder coating or another finish. Low-energy plastics and textured surfaces may be difficult for standard adhesives.

Keep clear of critical areas

Do not place decals on drinking rims, food-contact areas, seals, handles, hinges or surfaces exposed to direct heat.

Design for curvature

Small, simple shapes generally conform more easily than wide graphics. Measure the usable flat or gently curved area and avoid forcing the film across compound curves.

Confirm exposure limits

Ask whether the product is documented for condensation, outdoor use and the expected temperature range. Do not assume waterproof or dishwasher-safe performance.

Prepare and apply

Clean the surface using a method compatible with the item and the decal. Apply at the specified temperature and allow the stated bonding period before use.

Clean with care

Hand cleaning may be appropriate when confirmed for the product. Avoid soaking, aggressive chemicals, scraping and high-pressure washing unless explicitly permitted.

Frequently asked questions

Can a decorated bottle go in a dishwasher?

Only when both the item and the exact decal system are documented for that cleaning method.

Can decals be placed inside a cooler?

Do not do so unless the product is specifically approved for that environment and intended contact conditions.
